Rustic Turf BHS is the ideal solution for creating or renovating a traditional garden without the hassle. Designed by BHSa French specialist in lawn seeds, this mix combines robust varieties with an organic fertilizer incorporated directly into the bag.
The result: as soon as the seeds are sown, they benefit from an immediate supply of nutrients, promoting rapid, even emergence. No need to buy a separate starter fertilizer or calculate an additional dosage.
The 5 kg bag - including 1 kg free of charge - covers an area of up to 200 m², making it an economical choice for medium and large lawns. Whether you're starting from a bare site after a new build, or looking to replant winter-damaged areas, this hardy grass is suitable for most soils and regions in France.
The strength of this blend lies in its balanced composition, designed to provide a dense, long-lasting green carpet:
This combination is complemented by an organic NPK fertilizer (MgO) 5-3-6 (3), in compliance with NF U 42-001/A10. This fertilizer releases its nutrients gradually, feeding young seedlings during the first critical weeks without risk of scorching.
Magnesium (MgO) contributes to an intense, long-lasting green color.

How to sow successfully?
Start by preparing the soil: spade or claw the soil to a depth of 10 to 15 cm, remove stones and weeds, then level with a rake. If your soil is very clayey, add a little sand to improve drainage.
Sow at a rate of 25 g per m², ideally with criss-crossing passes (one half in one direction, the other perpendicular) to avoid sparse strips. Cover the seeds lightly with a rake, then press down with a roller or the back of a shovel to ensure good seed-to-soil contact.
Watering is the key to success for the first 3 to 4 weeks. Keep the soil surface moist by watering regularly and finely, preferably in the morning or at the end of the day to limit evaporation. Avoid powerful sprays that displace the seeds.
The first mowing should take place when the grass reaches a height of 8 to 10 cm: set the mower to a minimum height of 5 cm and never cut more than a third of the height at a time. For subsequent mowings, maintain a cutting height of 4 to 5 cm to encourage deep rooting.
Thanks to theorganic fertilizer already incorporated, no additional fertilizer is required for the first 6 weeks. Thereafter, plan a spring fertilization (March-April) and an autumn fertilization (September) with a conventional lawn fertilizer to maintain density and color.
Don't forget to scarify once a year, in spring, to remove thatch and promote water and nutrient penetration.
Our tips for professional results:
Combine your Rustic Grass BHS with an overseeding mix to fill in depressed areas before sowing. On compacted soil, a pass through theturf aerator (or nail skids) before sowing considerably improves grip.
If you're sowing in autumn, take advantage of September's mild weather to let the grass establish itself before the first frost: this is often the best time, as the soil is still warm and natural rainfall reduces the need for watering.
